A lot of cookbooks cross my desk and some catch enough attention to check the odd recipe and flip through. Very few demand to be read from front to back. Justin North, chef/owner of the elegant Becasse in the city takes a different approach and writes of a dozen or so beautiful ingredients and their producers. Subjects cover blood oranges to Wagyu beef all with a passion that will have you off to the next closest food market to find some new produce to cook with. Recipes are complicated - as you'd find in the beautiful food at Becasse - but explanations are clear and easy to follow. If this is all too hard, read the book then dine at Becasse and appreciate the produce and the talent and effort of the cooking. This is a cookbook I will keep.
