Not being a Melbourne boy until a few short years ago the legend that became Lygon Street was lost on me except for visits to Lygon St Food Store and Jimmy Watsons a couple of decades ago on trips to Melbourne. I know it now as a centre for some very good and very ordinary Italian food, my favourite local butcher, and a unique character. This book fills in the background and brings much of what still exists from many decades ago come to life. And it gives a background as to why it is what it is today. Lygon St is uniquely Melbourne and Melbouren would not be the same without it.
