I missed this on hard cover release and it stayed under the radar until recently. Heat is the story of a food-mad Bill Bruford taking a job in one of New York's most renowned and busy Italian restaurants to experience the "heat" himself. He stays in an attempt to master some of the skills. But his research takes him to the mentors of the chef, Mario Batali, including Marco Pierre White and pasta makers and the "world's most famous" butcher in Italy. It's a fascinating journey and the book is so well written you feel you're experiencing the adventures first hand. A great read for any foodie ...
