REVIEW:
Luke Mangan has developed a reputation for fine cooking and now has his finger in restaurants in Sydney, Tokyo, San Francisco, and soon Melbourne. His cooking has varied from the French flavours of Bistro Lulu to the refinement of Salt, but his heart seems to be in simple foods cooked well. at home & in the mood is exactly that - Luke cooking for family and friends. With a simple introduction about his style of entertaining the rest of the book is well described recipes of accessible dishes that should not daunt a tentative cook. The last pages cover basic sauces, stocks and more and there is even a bit of advice for a relaxed approach to wine and drinks - including coffee and tea. Again Dean Cambray's photographs give colour and richness to the pages. This is a great book for an unpretentious cook who wants to present something enticing whether it's for entertaining or just everyday fine cooking.
