2006 Peregrine Ridge American Oak Blend - Shiraz
Wine

Country of origin: Australia
Area/Appellation: Heathcote
Variety/Style: Shiraz
Cellaring: Now - 2016
Supplier Agent: Peregrine Ridge
Availability: Limited
Price Range: $35.00

Tasting Note:
A small portion of the crop was held aside and aged in American oak - often the preferred partner for shiraz in Australia, adding spice and vanilla to often very ripe fruit flavours.
The more elegant fruit profile of central Heathcote shiraz presents a different picture for the framing of American oak and it's fascinating comparing this with its French oak sibling. Vanilla and cocoa lift the red/blue fuit characters of middle Heathcote - attractive and bolder than the French model, while the palate shows an edge of broader tannins and more obvious oak flavours.
All this certainly adds a splash of immediate appeal, although it will age well while always keeping that extra element of oak spice.
